What is
Ornithine?
Ornithine is an amino acid
manufactured by the body. It is produced when another amino
acid, arginine, is metabolized during the production of
urea, a substance found in human urine. It plays an
important role in the metabolism of nitrogen and is believed
to stimulate the release of growth hormones.
What Does
in the Body?
Ornithine induces the release
of growth hormone in the body, which in turn helps with fat
metabolism.
Ornithine is required for a properly functioning
immune system and liver. It assists in ammonia
detoxification and liver rejuvenation.
Ornithine helps healing and
repairing skin and tissue and is found in both these body
parts.
Ornithine is helpful
for people recouping after surgery and athletes may benefit
from this nutrient.
Where is it found?
Good sources of ornithine are predominantly found in
meat, fish, dairy, and eggs.
Symptoms of Deficiency/Side Effects
iSince the body can produce ornithine, a deficiency of this
non-essential amino acid is rare. Few people are really
deficient in ornithine, unless they are extremely
malnourished or have a disorder that disrupts the citric
acid cycle. |
