What is
Boron?
Boron is a trace mineral that
is used as a supplement for the prevention and treatment of
osteoporosis and arthritis. It may also improve your
thinking and alertness and build muscle mass.
What does
in the body?
This mineral is important for
healthy bones, and especially for the metabolism of calcium,
magnesium, and phosphorous. Boron is also helpful for proper
mental function and alertness.
Boron affects the metabolism
of steroid hormones, and may also play a role
converting vitamin D to it's more active form, consequently
increasing calcium uptake and deposition into bone. Boron
also increase sex hormone levels in men.
Where is it found?
Fruits and vegetables are the main dietary sources of boron.
However, the concentration of boron in plants depends on
adequate concentrations of boron in the soil. Other good
dietary sources of boron are legumes, and nuts.
Wine, cider and beer also contain significant amounts of
boron.
Recommended daily intake is
estimate to be between 1 and 10 Mg.
Symptoms Of Deficiency/Side Effects
Boron deficiency seems to affects calcium and magnesium
metabolism, and affects the composition, structure and
strength of the bone. Due to its effects on calcium and
magnesium metabolism, boron deficiency may also contribute
to the formation of kidney stones.
Boron side effect may be, breathing problems or tightness in
your throat or chest, chest pain, skin hives, rash, or itchy
